Happy Fourth!

The Fourth of July falling midweek this year is a bit inconvenient since we can’t hook it easily to the weekend. If you have people over to celebrate, there’s no free day in advance to prepare, nor a day afterwards to recover.

But I’m glad we, as a country, haven’t tried to turn this sacrosanct holiday into a three-day weekend for our own convenience, as we have other holidays like Memorial Day. I believe we should honor the day for its meaning; not for our barbecues. Memorial Day to me will always be May 30 and a holiday in remembrance of our war dead; not the last Monday in May and the kickoff to summer.

Nothing to Cook

Don’t you hate it when you forget to defrost something in the morning? Or haven’t had time to do the grocery shopping? You’re left rummaging through cupboards, wondering what to cook for dinner!

Linguine with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Anchovies is a quick and easy solution, made mostly with pantry staples. Don’t be scared away by the anchovies. When finely minced, these little morsels disperse and will not overwhelm the dish.

What’s for dinner? Most people – as many as 70 percent, according to one survey – don’t have a clue at 4 p.m.

About that time Twitter comes alive with plaintive cries for help, “girl what u cook?” “im hungry, any ideas for supper??? idk what to cook?” “Ummmm what to cook for dinner? Any ideas tweeps?”

I, @specialforksndy, come to the rescue! It’s not easy to respond with recipe ideas in 140 characters or less.
