Inside Special Fork

By Sandy Hu

Like our new look? Special Fork blog is evolving! The new masthead is a sneak peek at the look and feel of our soon-to-be-launched Special Fork mobile recipe website. If you follow me on Twitter @specialforksndy, you’ll see I’ve also changed my Twitter page to better match the Special Fork identity.

Our mobile site is being built by Brick Design, a brilliant design team and a joy to work with, using a photo by the talented Marshall Gordon. The site has a lot of moving parts and we are continually refining it through the beta. (If you are interested in being a beta tester, reply to this post.)

When we launch – and you’ll be the first to know – you’ll be able to use your smartphone (iPhone, Blackberry and phones using Android) to help you decide what to cook for dinner no matter where you are — at the supermarket or on the bus going home from work.

We’ve started video Fridays. The goal of our demos is to show you how easy it can be to prepare a Special Fork meal. For example, last week Dave demonstrated how to make California Almond Granola. Instead of buying granola, it’s not hard – and a lot less expensive – to make it yourself.

We are now in a regular routine with our blog posts. We update every day, Monday through Thursday. I start the week off on Monday. Tuesdays, it’s Katie Barreira, test kitchen associate at Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine, who blogs to reach cooking newbies with easy and imaginative recipes and tips.

On Wednesdays, Lori Powell blogs about cooking for singles or couples. Lori has worked at all the top magazines in New York, including Real Simple, where she was food director, to Ladies’ Home Journal, Martha Stewart Living and Gourmet. All her delicious recipes serve just one or two.

Thursdays it’s the husband-and-wife team of Andrew and Marilyn Hunter. Andrew is a research and development chef and former VP of Culinary Development for Wolfgang Puck. Marilyn juggles the roles of wife, mother and partner in the family business. They give practical advice about cooking for a family and share the culinary adventures of their two adorable sons, Benny and Nicky.

Special Fork bloggers blog Monday through Friday. For more recipes and ideas on your smartphone, check us out at www.specialfork.com. Join the conversation on Facebook and follow us on Twitter @specialforksndy.

Love the logo! So creative and contemporary. Best of luck with the new site, too.
