All last week, Special Fork bloggers shared their favorite kitchen tools for Tool Week. We’ve gathered together some of their tool choices and some of our own favorites in a prize package for Special Fork’s first giveaway on Facebook, exclusively for Special Fork’s fans.

Fans must fill out a very short entry form to be eligible for the drawing. Contest closes on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

Dave and I went shopping at Sur la Table in San Francisco to buy the tools for our prize package and we found so many we love that we ended up exceeding our original budget of $75, taking the total value of our giveaway up to $100.

Old School Tools

As Woody Allen points out in his most recent film, Midnight in Paris, it simply isn’t healthy to pine away for the past, while eschewing the marvels of the present. When applied to kitchen tools, this theory holds only somewhat true.

I certainly wouldn't want to live in a world in which it was necessary to cream butter and sugar without an electric mixer. And while it’s clear that many newfangled gadgets (the asparagus peeler comes to mind) were invented with the sole purpose of having something else to sell, the modernization of kitchen tools has, on the whole, been hugely beneficial to the cook.
