My Go-to Holiday Appetizer

I love to throw a big holiday party, but it’s so much work, I’ve forsworn doing them. I shared my party tips with you during my last big holiday party, ever.

It doesn’t mean we won’t deck our halls. As I write, there are hundreds of ornaments collected over the years, sorted by type, waiting to be hung on our nine-foot Noble Fir, purchased, as in years past, from a Delancey Street lot where the trees are beautiful, the service is excellent and the cause is admirable.

Delancey Street is the country's leading residential self-help organization for former substance abusers, ex-convicts, homeless and others who have hit bottom. All of the cheerful and helpful staff at the Christmas tree lot are working their way out of their various life issues through Delancey Street programs.

An Easy Appetizer that’s a Pleaser

This is the time of year when it’s good to have some simple appetizer recipes at the ready. Cooler weather and shorter days inspire us to more home entertaining, and from Thanksgiving to the New Year, most of us will host at least one get-together to celebrate the holidays.

Here’s a simple appetizer with a winning flavor combination of sweet, salty and (bacon) fat. You can prep these little nuggets earlier in the day, refrigerate, and broil when the first guests arrive.

Good Cooks Need the Right Tools

A carbon steel crepe pan changed Atlanta chef Mary Moore’s life.

“I was in New York cooking at the Greenmarket with Scott Peacock. We were making crepes with fresh apples,” Mary recalled. “We had forgotten our crepe pan so went all over the city looking for one, and surprisingly, we couldn’t find any at all the bigger stores. Scott said, ‘I know the store that will have one.’ He took us to Bridge Kitchenware. They had it – and thousands of other cool culinary tools. And I said, ‘One day, I’m going to have a store like this!’”
