I Heart Carbs

Like the allure of meat on meat (think bacon burger), one carbohydrate can only improve with the addition of another. Strangely enough, it was during a starch-starved year in San Francisco, where no excess of sushi or burritos could curb my hankering for a decent slice of pie and a boiled bagel, that I discovered the ultimate carb combo: potato pizza. The tough-crusted wedge may not have scratched my East Coast itch, but it securely rooted the idea of tubers on toast.

Five Fabulous Reci-Tips for Tasso

Eating out is great inspiration for home cooks. I’m forever ordering the dish with an unfamiliar ingredient or curious preparation in the hopes that it will serve as both sustenance and culinary education.

I never imagined that my latest food obsession would come from the good old pizza delivery menu, but it was there, buried in the topping selections that I came upon tasso. The parenthetical, “Cajun ham,” gave me enough of a clue to ring in an order for a cheese pizza with tasso and red onion. Since then, I have enjoyed the combination with such regularity that the pizza establishment knows me by name, that is, “Ms. Tasso and Red Onion.”

Cheat It Pizza for Two

So a friend calls and says that she is in the neighborhood, possibly 15 minutes away, and was just a wondering if she could stop by and…it’s lunch time! What to do????

Do not panic! Certainly it’s not worth it. It’s not hard to have something delicious on the table when a friend drops by.

My Cheat It Pizza is not only super-tasty but great for a late-night, quick-fix dinner or after-party snack when you just didn’t have enough time to eat, since you were too busy chatting everyone up. Or maybe you just are not good at eating and talking at the same time!

It’s a Grilled Pizza Party!

One of the great injustices of apartment living is not having a grill. I’ve tried a few questionable substitutions, including a tailgating-esque fiasco on the fire escape. Beyond the obvious safety concerns, it’s just not fun to negotiate a window entrance with a platter of juicy burgers.

It simply is not summer without a real backyard ‘cue, so this past weekend I ventured to Jersey, usurped a friend’s grill and threw a make-your-own grilled pizza party.
