A Labor Day Ballpark Picnic

Labor Day is the last official summer celebration, signaling that the dog days are nearing an end. While the weather will remain warm for weeks to come, afternoons playing baseball in the park will soon give way to more indoor-centric activities. So follows cooking.

But the Hunters aren’t battening down the hatches just yet. Instead we want to tell you about a fun and easy picnic for Labor Day that the whole family will enjoy—a gourmet ballpark picnic.

No all-American celebration is complete without hot dogs, coleslaw and potato salad, and if your kids are like ours, they’ll be pleased as punch with the menu.

Laboring on Labor Day

It’s the Labor Day weekend. Well to some….

I will be in San Francisco shopping for a cookbook shoot but if I were resting my laurels on this lovely long weekend, I would be having a BBQ or better yet, attending one. There is a lot of labor in Labor Day, if you know what I mean. Especially for those of you who are hosting that BBQ.

Here’s to Worker Bees

As our nation breaks on Monday to celebrate the achievements of working people, let’s take a moment to honor the eponymous laborer of the natural world: the worker bee.

The National Honey Board reports that, “honey is made in one of the world’s most efficient facilities. The 60,000 or so bees in a beehive may collectively travel as much as 55,000 miles and visit more than two million flowers to gather enough nectar to make just a pound of honey.”

Labor Day Checklist: Get Gift; Make Food

Here's what to do with Tilapia

When I’m at the fish counter of the supermarket, I’m always attracted to the tilapia – in part because it sounds exotic, but mostly because it’s cheap. The problem is that I didn’t have the slightest idea what to do with this fish.

If you’re in the same boat, I’ve found a great recipe that not only uses tilapia in a delicious way, but also can be prepped and cooked in under 20 minutes. In fact the fish cooks for 2 to 3 minutes per side, and the prep is pretty much just cutting up cucumbers and radishes.
