Forget the Dips – It’s all about the Dippers

By David Hu
A new video for Video Friday

It’s finally Super Bowl Sunday and if your team didn’t make it to the big game, take solace in the fact that there’s going to be some good eating on Sunday.

There’s bound to be dips galore that call for good dippers. Skip the chips this year and go for something with more impact. We’re talking pita chips and crostini.

They sound fancy but these are basically oven toasts. And since both of them bake at the same temperature for the same amount of time, you don’t have to pick one over the other – you can mix and match on the same sheet pan.

A Winning Chili for Super Bowl Sunday

By Joy Taylor
For The Family Table, a blog for busy families

I’ll admit right up front that my favorite teams got knocked out of Super Bowl contention weeks ago. (Okay, if you must know: Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers; long story that I would like BOTH rivals. But, hey, I’m a Midwesterner.)

But despite their losses, I’ll still be glued to the TV come Sunday for the royal conclusion to football season. That means our home will be filled with people and enough food to satisfy the whole defensive line.

The most all-American of foods will be a part of the menu: chili. Now everyone has their favorite bowl of red – with or without beans, blazin’ hot or mildly sweet; pork cubes or ground beef. If you haven’t already settled on your Super Bowl game plan, food-wise, perhaps you’ll give one of my favorite chili recipes a try.

Skinny Dipping for Super Bowl Sunday

By Lori Powell

Super Bowl Sunday is a-comin’ and the need for great dips and chips is imminent Even though I’m not a die-hard fan of football, I can certainly step up to the line and embrace an event that involves food.

I was just on the TODAY Show on Monday as food director of Prevention magazine, www.prevention.com presenting my version of “Skinny Dipping” during the Kathie Lee & Hoda segment. I was the short one next to Jordan Sparks who was standing in for Kathie. It was fun sharing ideas for dips that are not only truly tasty, but healthy.

These recipes will help you think outside the processed dip and chip box to create snacking options that are packed with flavor, without fillers or additives. Plus, all the dips but one are just whizzed in the food processor and can be made ahead. It’s a win-win, as these dips only get better in flavor as they sit.

Super Bowl Sunday Guacamole

By Andrew Hunter

The countdown to the Super Bowl has officially started. My brother-in-law, Eddie, who is a 5th generation Texan, is staying home through the weekend to avoid the crazy crowds. He typically also stays away from the kitchen, but on this most sacred game day, Eddie ties on his annual apron strings and makes his signature guacamole.

He’s not alone in his love for avocados, though he calls them “gator pears.” Did you know that 53.5 million pounds of avocados will be consumed on Super Bowl Sunday? That’s nearly 6 ounces for every man, woman and child in the United States. It’s the avocado industry’s biggest day of the year. That said, it’s time to talk guacamole.
