Make this Stew in Less than 30 Minutes, from Start to Finish

By David Hu

I love to cook, but sometimes I just don’t have the time or the energy to do much. Stews tend to be a great answer to this problem because they don’t require much active cooking. But usually they take hours on the stove and aren’t the instant solution.

Today’s video recipe is a hearty bean and pasta stew. Once you get all the ingredients cut and measured, just throw them in a pot, let everything simmer, sit back and you’ll be eating in 15 minutes. Since most of the ingredients are primarily pantry items, you should be able to skip a trip to the supermarket.

Make an Easy, One-Skillet Meal

By David Hu

Here’s a recipe that’s especially welcome on nights when you just don’t feel like cooking. Meat, veggies and rice come together in one skillet, so dinner is an efficient, one-dish meal. You do have to cook some rice first, however, but if you have a rice cooker, it’s a simple matter to measure out the rice and water in the pot, turn it on and come back to it when the rice is done.

Ground beef or lamb, green pepper and eggplant are an especially delicious combination of Mediterranean flavors. Quick, easy and hearty, this is a great dish for a brisk fall day.

Make this Great Hot Breakfast in 3 Minutes

By David Hu

Getting out the door in the morning with breakfast is always a challenge for me. Cereal gets old and I just don’t have time to make anything of substance like pancakes or an omelet.

Today’s recipe, a breakfast burrito, hits all the important marks for me:

Quick (under 3 minutes total time)
Few ingredients (just four: egg, salsa, cheese, tortilla)
Easy (assemble and microwave)

Game Night calls for Chicken Wings

By David Hu

I always look forward to game night. Sometimes it’s Scattergories, Taboo, poker or games on the Wii. While the games change, the one constant, besides fun, is food. Finger foods are the way to go – just make sure there are ample napkins.

One of my favorites for game night is Peanuts and Beer Chicken Wings. While people often think of using beer in batter-fried foods like fish and chips or onion rings, beer is a very versatile ingredient that can be used in stews, marinades and even dips.

After the wings are baked, the liquid will be thin so it’s important to reduce it by boiling to get a thicker, sauce-like consistency, making for deliciously sticky wings.

Inside Special Fork: Behind the Scenes of our Video Blogs

By Sandy Hu

It’s a gorgeous Sunday morning in San Francisco. But instead of going out to enjoy it – and heaven knows we’ve had few perfect summer days to revel in – my son Dave and I are dutifully chopping and measuring and getting ready to shoot another Special Fork video blog.

Fridays are video days on our blog site and we are committed to introducing a new video blog every week. Dave and I comb through the Special Fork beta site looking for recipes to spotlight that are quick, easy and delicious, and that offer a teachable moment. Sometimes, we simply want to show how do-able a recipe is, even for beginners.
